I was a member of the admin's first pet group on Yahoo around 13 or 14 years ago. Back then I had a golden retriever and ferrets. I now am a permaculturist and keep a flock of free range chickens in my garden here in Phoenix, AZ. Currently we have 6 hens, 1 rooster, and 8 chicks that just hatched last week.

Howdy! I'm not sure why the links to Flickr aren't working probably. I might set up an imageshack account sometime. For now, if you'd really like to see them, you can right-click, and open them in a new window or tab.
Hi bird man. My grandfather always kept chickens. His were of the run around in the yard, pecking and doing their chicken thing type so I reckon you could call them free range. I'm not sure we used that term all those years ago. We alway had fresh eggs and no short supply of chicken for Sunday dinner.
That's awesome. I'm from a big vegetable and fruit growing tradition, but we never had livestock (unless you count my childhood pet rabbit!). How big of a flock did your grandpa have?
He usually had around 50 at all times. Some became dinner, some hatched. He also grew vegetables. When I was a young adult I also grew vegetables and had a few goats. I had the goats/milk tested so I could sell goats milk. Funny, raising the goats I could never kill one for meat. They became too much like pets. Then I moved to Chicago and became a city boy...
