What kind of treats do you give to your cats? How often do you use the treats? Do you give in when the cats keep bugging you for it? Big Grin

We get freeze dried chicken, ocean whitefish & shrimp by PureBites. Those are the only ingredients, no garbage. They usually get the treats once every day, regardless of how much they beg for more.

Sound delicious. Are all those 3 ingredients mixed up into one threat or if they are separated food?

They are separate. They each have one ingredient. They really seem to like the chicken best.

By the way, what do they do when they try to beg you for treats?

They just come circling and meowing. You have pets, you learn to read some of their behavior. The male will get a little more aggressive than the girls. He will jump to where the trash is and try to find his own treats. I once found a licked clean butter wrapper in his kitty cup. (bed) We have learned, he no longer has access.

If you want a great treat for your cats (especially if you are trying to get them to drink more water), open a can of tuna packed in water (for your own lunch) and use the can lid to squeeze the liquid out of the tuna into a bowel. Tuna water, YUM!!!

As many cats do not drink enough water and end up with urinary problems because of it all our cats get water mixed in their food. They don't seem to mind and it helps. Our male had surgery for urinary crystals years ago and he gets "soup" now. He eats it with no problem, pig that he is, and there have been no more crystal problems.

I have never owned a cat myself, but it seems to me the cat food at my friend's place was really wet. Is it for the same reason you feed your cat "soup"?

Could very well be. You would have to ask your friend. We started adding equal amounts of water to food ratio after he had his crystal surgery. It must work as there have been no more crystals. We told the vet what we do and she said she wished more people would do the same. It sure is easier and cheaper than more surgeries!!

I thought the cat food was naturally wet instead of had water added to it by my friend.

You are correct, canned cat food is wet. BUT as many cats will not drink enough water on their own adding extra water to their food is beneficial. I have one cat out of three that I ever see drink water. So, soup!

On that same subject, a friend of mine will throw a spoon or two of canned (human) tuna and some water in the blender to make "tuna soup" for them.

Karenskatz, I have read many times, many places that human grade tuna is bad for cats because of the mercury levels. Can you shed any light on that? For years it has been on my list of foods to NOT feed a cat.

Mercury? Eek
I wouldn't eat that fish if there is mercury in there. Let alone give it to a cat or any animal for that matter.

Greenies, greenies and more greenies. Both of my cats love them. Even though the older one has problems with her teeth, for some reason, she eats up greenies.

I know that they are like candy, but I always give in to my cats when they want greenies.

I have to really limit the amount of greenies that I give to my older cat because she has kidney disease. Greenies are the only treat she gets.

My 4 cats are very picky when it comes to treats. I give one Friskies Party Mix, another one Temptations, and another one Whisker Lickens. The other one just eats anything that is put into her bowl. Cats are very strange sometimes. I need to lay off the treats though because they are getting a little overweight.

Since they were kittens, my fiancee has clipped their nails and then rewarded them with a treat. This way, they'll be good because they will want that tasty treat.

Anyway, we usually give them catnip or one of those kiblets that cats go crazy over when you shake the bag.

We usually get the prepackaged cat treats; whatever is on sale. The brand varies depending on what the sale price is and what I can find for a decent price. It is funny because I give my dog scraps, but I refuse to give table scraps to my cat. I just feel like their bodies won't digest human food as well because they are so tiny. I have a big dog, so maybe that is my reasoning.

Haha, yeah Smile. I always give my cat milk in the morning first thing when I wake up. She just doesn't let me do anything else until she gets her portion of milk.

She does ask for another portion of milk on an odd day. She does this by coming to me and pushing me with the paws and then leading me back to the place where her food and water stand. She would then sit and meow, asking for milk Wink.

Milk is the only "treat" she will eat btw. I have tried some other treats, and she does eat some of them some of the time, but they aren't anything special to her. Maybe raw meat, she does eat it, but never seems too keen to get a slice of the meat. For milk she practically begs. I'm guessing she needs more hydration as all she does eat is dry cat food.

She does love catnip though, I guess that can be considered a kind of a treat. I make sure to have some growing in the house, especially during winter when she goes out less.

My cats dont really get any cat treats, this is mostly because of Bandit's IBD, if he eats anything bad for him, he gets very sick very fast. Iams cat food upsets his tummy due to the corn content in it, so I figure most treats will have the same mish-mash of ingredients and it really is taking a risk! Whenever he is good though I will give him a piece of raw meat, either chicken breast or steak (Never give a cat raw ground meat as it contains too much bacteria for them to handle!!), or a little bit of cream cheese. He LOVES cream cheese! I think they love anything that is dairy, which is ironic seeing as cats are lactose intolerant!

Wow, that's an interesting bit of information about adding water to their food, glad that works! I'm going to have to keep that one in mind. As for treats, as I am dealing with some wild kitties here, the treat situation is a bit different. I did try putting some little treat bits out on the porch in hopes of luring them closer but it didn't work. They just snuck up and grabbed the treats when I wasn't looking, LOL!

I am also curious about the tuna but maybe that needs its own thread.

Our cat is very fussy. He won't eat people food at all. He prefers to chew on dried flower arangements, that he does not eat he just creates a big mess. The only thing he considers his treat is his dry catfood. My mom shakes the bottle and in a instant he is there looking for his treat. Mom thinks the cat is somewhat dumb, because the same stuff is in his feed dish. Whatever, his reasoning it works when we try and lure him into his carrying case. lol

My cat is the biggest fan of Friskies Party Mix. She absolutely adores this treat so therefore whenever I unpack the bags from the grocery I can already see her begging at the corner of my eye. She is the most adorable cat and I can't resist giving her these treats especially when she begs so much for them. My heart would really break if I didn't give them to her and she continued begging!
