We use Hill's prescription diet for our dog. We have to feed him special food because he is diabetic. He is eleven years old and when they have diabetes it can be hard on their heart. So the dog food he eats is specifically for heart health. I haven't noticed any differences in his energy or coat. Of course being on the right dose of insulin makes a big difference in how he acts/feels!
The one thing that can be frustrating is the cost of special food. But they do become members of the family and wouldn't we all do whatever it took to keep them healthy? he really seems like he would eat any kind of food. But I know some foods are definetly better than others.
I just hope this food will keep him healthy and that he can live as long as he would have before he got diabetes. I've talked to some owners whose dogs only lived months after their diagnosis! So far so good.
