  Avatars
Posted by: Thor - 05-09-2012, 06:56 PM - Forum: Announcement - No Replies

To personalize your forum account, you can add an avatar - a small picture just below your user name. You can change it in your User CP under Change Avatar. Because avatars collectively take up a lot of server space and bandwidth, we ask that you keep your avatar file as small as possible. We currently have set a maximum file size limit of 10k for each avatar, but of course the smaller the better. You can also host the picture elsewhere and link the image URL to your Avatar as you can see under Change Avatar under your User CP.

In choosing a picture, please keep in mind that this is a G rated forum. If your avatar wouldn’t be useable in a G rated movie, you may be asked to remove it. Even beyond that, we ask that you keep in mind that this forum is viewed by thousands of people from all over the world. While it is of course impossible to please all of the people all of the time, you should try to choose an avatar that won’t disturb other forum members. Accordingly you should avoid avatars that are gross, violent, sexually provocative, contentious, portray illegal or immoral activities, or that are otherwise likely to be disturbing to other forum members. If a moderator deems that your avatar does not fall within these guidelines, they may at their option either remove it directly or ask that you remove it. Although a moderator will typically seek the opinion of others before removing an avatar, they do have the authority to simply remove the avatar immediately if they deem that is the best course of action.

If you have a problem with someone else’s avatar, first try to remember that tolerance is a two way street. If you expect other’s to be tolerant of you, it is important that you be tolerant of them. So stop and ask yourself whether you might not be overreacting. If you decide that you are not overreacting, then send a PM to a moderator explaining why you believe that the avatar is inappropriate. Please understand that the moderators are very busy, and also that their viewpoint is likely to be somewhat different than yours. It may take a while for them to respond, and in the end they may not agree with you. In such a case, please remember that tolerance is a virtue and learning it can at times be a bit discomforting.

Exclamation $50 cash reward for the most dedicated members

A $50 cash reward for the most dedicated members

We are running a competition to reward the most dedicated members on this Forum.

Anyone who has signed up and activated his or her account on the Forum would be automatically entering the competition.

At the end of May, 2012, we will choose the most dedicated members.

In order to be chosen, you must have a minimum of average 5 posts per day, and a minimal total of 150 posts. In other words, you have to be a member of the forum for at least 30 days. What if you joined late? Don’t worry. All your posts will be counted toward the next month’s competition.

Once we gathered a list of all the members who meet the minimal requirements, we will be picking the final winner among those chosen ones!

(The following are just tips for the case where multiple members meet the requirements. If there is only one member meet the minimal requirement, then this member will get the prize money as long as his/her posts are not spam)

Tips for being the final winner
1. Make quality posts
You can post hot topics to attract other members for an interesting conversation.
You can reply to other members with informative posts. Extra bonus if you solved someone’s problem.
Posts such as “Great”, “interesting”, or “I agree with you” will not be considered as “high quality.” Therefore, please try to avoid such posts without further information.
Please do not spam with pointless threads or similar threads.

2. Create activities
A member’s ability to initiate some good conversations on the forum will be considered creative during the decision-making process of picking the final winner.

3. Contribute to the community (This is not required, but welcomed)
If you are knowledgeable about a certain pet, or if you have experience using certain pet products and services, we welcome you to write informative articles about them. You can simply post them as new threads under the correct category. If your article is your original idea with high quality content, a forum staff will contact you via a private message if you are interested in having your article being added to the Library section of this web site. The more your articles are being listed in the Library, the more likely you will be chosen as the winner!
(You can certainly write about some common topics such as beginners’ guide for a certain pet. Just make sure to post your original work with your own words.).

The competition ends on 5/31/2012, at the same time the next competition begins. Watch for an announcement of the winner in early June! The winner will be contacted by forum staff via a private message.

(Update on April 24th: We reserve the right to cancel the event if there is a lack of participation or if there is wide spread abuse of the event. Notification of the cancellation will be announced no later than a week before the end of the competition)

The competition for June will be announced at the end of May. New rules might apply.

The winner can still enter and win the competition for the next month.

Good luck with the competition!

The Prize - The cash reward will only be sent through Paypal. If you do not yet have a PayPal account, go ahead get one now. It is the easiest and the safest way to transfer money online. Smile

If you have any questions or comment, you can post a reply in this thread.

Good luck on winning the competition!

  Recruiting new moderators! (Revised)
Posted by: Thor - 02-20-2012, 09:03 PM - Forum: Announcement - No Replies

This forum is new and fresh(launched on 2/20/2012). To build a good community, we will need good moderators who are not only knowledgeable about pets, but also who are friendly and responsible people that will enforce the rules to keep this forum a pure environment.
Members who are promoted into the rank of moderators will be able to have special abilities on the forum.

The requirements for moderators
1. You must be 18+ of age.
2. You must be helping the community by actively participating in the forum. (no spam! Useful posts only)
3. You must be helping the community by actively recruiting new members during the initial stage of this forum launch. This is much needed to get the snow ball effect started at this stage.
4. You must be having good knowledge about at least one pet.
5. You must be friendly to everyone.

A few registered members will be selected for moderators depends on the following facts
1. The quality of you posts (the level of knowledge, interesting hot topics, helpful answers, etc.)
2. The amount of posts (minimal 5 per day on the average)
3. The amount of new members you recruited. Simple have your recruited members to put you in the box of referral when they sign up.
4. The amount of very interesting suggestions you have for me to make this forum a better place.
5. The amount of informative articles you write for this forum. (Must be your own writing! No copy and paste! Minimal 500 words per article.)
6. You must be friendly to everyone. Yes, to everyone.
7. Self recommendation can work, if you can prove that you meet these requirements in addition that you will be very helpful as a moderator.
(Important: If nobody meets such requirements, nobody will be selected for the month, and the new requirements will be updated at the beginning of May)

Additional to what's already stated
- If you can offer help to build this web site, depend on your level of expertise on web design, this alone might make you a moderator since web design alone is a lot of work.
