I just got two budgie parakeets. You can see the details from this thread.
Why did I choose budgie parakeets?
1. They are pretty. I like eye candy. 
2. They aren't too big. They are small sized parrots. It cuts down on the cage size requirement.
3. They are very active and playful. It is fun to watch them and to play with them.
4. They are fairly easy to take care of. As the matter of fact, they are considered beginners' birds.
5. I have had experience taking care of them.
6. They have the potential to learn to talk.
