When I had cats, the only time they seemed to gain weight was after spaying/neutering and again as they got older,, 10+ years. I always played with them a lot with different cat toys,, rolling balls for them, playing with the feathers on the end of sticks, ect. Plus they always played with each other a lot. They would still develop the "belly pouch." It was so funny to see my big gray cat run with the "belly pouch" swaying!
