yea, they are pellets, the betta is just very dumb and doesn't always pay attention to them when i drop em in, and so eventually goes after them after they have sunk a few times. he eats em fine when he finally sees them; he gets caught up at looking at me through the glass though. :S
I have noticed that the less i move plants around the less of the mess floats around in the tank so i will try to do as little as possible.
i have a question about algae now:
i have a green algae growing on the rubber top of my heater that is at the surface of the water in the tank, i have cleaned it several times as well as used soap, bleach, and got some of those algae pellets, it doesnt help and it grows back. when i go to clean off the algae, it smells like cleaning supplies, maybe an ammonia-ish smell? it is hard to describe.
then on the fake silk plants as well as on the power filter i have a orangey-brown algae that sometimes grows but doesn't come back as fast. this algae doesn't smell at all. is this green algae bad since it smells when i try to clean it off? it only grows on the top of the heater on the rubber. what can i do about this one?
as for the shelters (skull, pot, etc), the paint as well as plastic stuff is flaking off of these when i scrub em under hot water, to remove any algae from it, what do i do about it? the skull is flaking off clear plastic flakes and i have to constantly use my net to sweep em up when i use the skull, is that bad for the fish? should i toss both the pot as well as the skull since the paint and such is flaking off?
