Male or female cat? Which one makes better pet?
Do you have any preference in choosing a gender when it come to picking a cat?
Do you like male or female cat if you have to pick one?
Which one makes a better pet?

Why? Smile

I've heard many people say that the males are friendlier, but I've had some very affectionate females as well as males, and I really see no difference.

No cat is too big. Smile They are all small to me.
I actually never associated the size of the cats with their gender.

Really?

Maybe the girls are just shy, and the guys are easier to socialize with. Big Grin

I have noticed a distinct difference in males and females in one specific area. All of my life, it seems male cats tend towards female humans, and female cats tend towards male humans. It is certainly not a hard & fast rule, but it normally holds true. Find couples living together, and most of the time it works out that way. We have three cats, 1 female (I belong to her), the 1st male, (my wife belongs to him), and another male, who is mostly independent, but has adopted our oldest daughter for the most part. These are spayed and neutered cats by the way, done at a fairly young age. I have never seen any real personality differences in most "fixed" cats I would say is sex related. An adult un-neutered male, is a wholly different story, as is an un-spayed female to a lesser extent.

All the friends I know with cats have male cats. I am not sure if it is a coincidence, or a preference. At least one guy friend of mine got his male cat from a shelter. That was a very sociable cat.

To be honest, I haven't not seen any confirmed female cat at my friends'.

Fishbone, that's very interesting. I never noticed that nefore. Then again, almost all the cats I and my friends have are fixed.

Just a random notation I have made over the years. If you go to a couples house, and give them a fixed female, and a fixed male cat, I would almost bet money that the female bonds more with the man, and the male bonds more with the woman. Has to be in a house with multiple people though. If you have a domesticated, fixed, loving male cat, alone in a mans house, he will certainly bond with a man.

That sounded much dirtier than I ever intended it Big Grin

I personally haven't seen much of a difference. I have a male cat who is very laid back and loves my mother more than anyone else, has to sleep against her at night. I've got two female sister cats, mine loves everyone and is very playful but doesn't like to be held, my sisters cat (sister of my cat.. wow this is confusing) loves being held and played with but doesn't actively seek attention like the other two. My girlfriend had to give her cat away a few years ago (before we started to hang out again after highschool) and apparently my landlord got him (our appartment is in the middle of nowhere with my landlord's work shed next to it so he keeps the cat there). He is a VERY social cat and will come up to you and climb all over you, lick you, drool and purr. So as far as gender I don't really think it makes a difference.

Right now I'm at a convention andf I have my cat Chelsie along. She goes up to everyone for petting, and will climb into laps for attention, especially the women.

I have a male cat and he is most definitely MY cat. He has always preferred me over my ex. We also have had a female cat in the past, and now that I think about it, she did gravitate more towards my ex, though she would be in my lap whenever he wasn't around. I don't really care about the sex of the cat, we have had both and I loved them all the same.

I have only had boy cats. My first cat Carlos was sweet as a kitten and grew up to be mean. Then I had another cat named Simba he was sweet all the way around so I guess it depends. I wouldn't want a female cat though. For some reason I think they would give me attitude.

Really don't see much of a difference between the two sexes. We have two female cats and my wife's sister has to male cats. All of them have been fixed. I see that our cats have their favorite person to love but both of them are equal opportunity lovers.

Just like humans, we all have our differences and how we grow older things change as does our moods towards others.

I personally don't think gender makes a difference, it just depends on the individual pet. I've only had female cats as growing up my mother had a preference for female pets, but all our girls were super friendly. So I don't think it's true that male cats are friendlier than females. It also depends on how you raise your kittens. If you give them lots of attention they are more likely to make better pets as adults.
