A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to review a dog book. This was the first dog book I have ever reviewed which made me hesitate since I wasn't sure I would like to read more about dog stories when I have too many informational dog books to cover.
The title of the book was Follow the Dog Home by Bob, Samantha and Kevin Walsh. It was a great book and I would've never expected it to be so well written. It talked about 3 generations of Walshes having taken care of 17 dogs.
Oh, my goodness, there are wonderful dog-themed novels, including my favorite from Jack London, Call of the Wild. London's White Fang was another of my favorites. Other classics that were also excellent would be Sounder, Old Yeller, and Shiloh.
I hadn't heard of Follow the Dog Home, but I will definitely check Amazon for it as it sounds like a lovely book.
I have read some dog theme novels, including a couple cozy mysteries. I've also read dog themed non-fiction. I'm trying to think of a good dog related novel, but I can't think of one at the moment. However, I read a wonderful true story about a disabled woman and her experiences with her first service dog. It was called "A Dog Named Slugger".
Sometimes I shy away from animal related books. I think I have that Old Yeller fear. It seems in almost all these type of stories the animal gets hurt and dies or must be put to sleep. I can't handle that. I still get emotional when I watch Bambi.
