Does Your Cat Know The Sound Of Treats?
Does your cat know the sound of their treats being opened? Most people i know with a cat would say yes as well as I. You cannot even begin to open a can of soft cat food without they already swarming and going nuts.

Another Question, do you say anything special to them when you are to give them one? We Shout out the word Treat and they come running no matter how far away they are. Tongue

Does she ever. Particularly my youngest, a one year-old named Ella. I can't open anything that comes in a pouch without having her hanging on me because most of her cat treats come in pouches. If I open a pouch downstairs, such as one that holds dental floss, she'll come racing down the stairs from upstairs because she knows the sound and cannot accept that it could mean anything but that I have opened a pouch of cat treats.

"Ella, it's dental floss. It's not a cat treat."

"Don't lie to me. I heard you open it."

"See, it's dental floss. This pouch holds dental floss, not cat treats."

"Where'd you hide the cat treats?"

For some reason my kitties thought the word "Hey" implied treat. I guess it's because when I would pull the treats out, usually the kitties would already be in the same room and I would start off "Hey Zelda, would you like some special nom noms?" Which they always replied with sweet meows but, I am guessing this is how "Hey" became the trigger word for treat. Anytime the word was said, I got a meow response--and if I didn't have a treat, it just broke their heart, so they rubbed against my leg and meowed until a treat was given.

Otherwise, the sound of opening cans in general made them think they were eating wet food. Then the sound of opening treat pouches. I couldn't surprise them for nothing!

When it comes to the sound of the treat bag, this is actually a big deal in our household, too. Our older, long-haired cat, gets a treat after her grooming routine, as an incentive. Of course, our younger short-haired cat, is right there waiting. She can be in a deep sleep and awake instantly! Sometimes, when she is one of her many hiding places, and we can not find her, all we have to do is open the treat bag. Oh yeah, we also ring out the word, treats, in a special high tone of voice. They just get so happy, which makes us happy.

My cats go insane as soon as they hear a noise resembling food or treats being opened. They're so spoiled too. It's gotten to a point where I feel it's necessary to give them treats when they run over to me thinking they're about to get fed, while in reality it's just me making myself some food. My older cat though is very oversized. She's basically like a dog when it comes to begging for food at the table.

RE: Does Your Cat Know The Sound Of Treats?
Ours definitely knew the sound of treats. They would come running from anywhere in the house at the sound of that bag. Additionally, they loved canned tuna, so anytime we took out a metal bowl (which we would use when we mixed tuna salad) they would come running thinking it was time for tuna.

We used to keep the treats in a specific spot in the kitchen, even after we had remodeled the kitchen and the cabinet that had held them had been removed they would still go to the same spot and stare and meow in the direction the old cabinet had been.
