Hyper dog is always hungry
When we acquired the 2-month old Pipoy, they said that pugs are naturally hyper. But we were worried that Pipoy might lose breath and collapse for he never stops running and roaming in the house unless he gasps for breath. Our only logical recourse was to put him in a cage. At least he relaxes when he is cooped or on a leash. But it's not good for a pupppy to be caged so we would let Pipoy loose in the living room under supervision of a human - more often, it is the housemaid. The freedom usually lasts for 5 minutes only. When Pipoy is back in the cage, he would drink water, obviously fatigued and thirsty.

When Pipoy was 1 year old, we noticed that he would always bark at around 10 am. It didn't dawn on us that Pipoy must be hungry. But he is. That's why we would be giving him an extra meal, just a snack though. At that time, we still have the imported milky jerky that our dogs relished. That's the usual snack of Pipoy until my husband scared me that it is processed food and might not be good for our dogs. So I stopped buying the jerky.

With Pipoy's hunger, the mid afternoon snack is now a regular. And the usual fare is fried sweet potato that is, at least, nutritious. That means Pipoy eats 4 meals a day that doesn't count the crumbs that my husband would give our dogs in the morning.

Oh, you've got a pug! I really love pugs, I think they are so cute. Well, I think it's a good thing that your dog is energetic, playful, and eager when it comes to eating. It's a sign that your dog is healthy and balanced. His high-energy is also the reason why he eats a lot, I guess. However, just remember not to let your dog eat more than what he needs. He might become obese and that's not good for dogs. Also, I've read somewhere that pugs, especially, really have the tendency to become obese, so just be more cautious.

RE: Hyper dog is always hungry
This could be as a result of hormonal surges increasing the levels of ghrelin in the bloodstream. Dogs are generally good feeders and have a high appetite. Their digestive systems are very efficient and capable of handling comes. I have seen in alot of places that dogs should be fed once a day but I don't find this to be fair since the animals will live in hunger pangs for the better part of the day. Some people even neglect to feed their dogs for days on end. They can be seen moving around the villages and urban zones scavenging in rubbish heaps and around homes in order to fend for themselves. The best recourse to the pug's hunger problem is to condition them to having around 2 meals a day in normal circumstances otherwise they might develop obesity and attendant heart problems as well as limiting their ability to move around. Supplementation of dog feed with some minerals is important since dogs are likely to overeat in an effort to increase their intake of the same.
