Thanks for sharing!

It seems there are quite a few pet food recall lately.

I don't know if we should be glad of the recall because the quality check actually found them, or we should be upset about it because so many problems lately.

I think overall it is good. Salmonella is a tricky bacteria. They obviously need to work on their sanitation procedures.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 30, 2012
Diamond Pet Foods is expanding a voluntary recall to include Diamond Puppy Formula dry dog food. The company took this precautionary measure because sampling revealed Salmonella in the product. No dog illnesses have been reported.

Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and

RE: Pet food recall
Human Salmonella Outbreak Tied to Diamond Dog Foods
Public health officials launched an investigation into a link between a recent outbreak of human Salmonella infections and the recently-recalled dog food brands produced by Diamond Pet Foods.
Posted: May 4, 2012, 1 p.m. EDT

Since October, fourteen individuals in nine states have been diagnosed with Salmonella Infantis – the same strain of Salmonella discovered in three Diamond dog food brands produced at its Gaston, S.C., manufacturing facility: Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula and Diamond Puppy Formula.

Salmonella Infantis is rare, according to the CDC, with less than three cases typically reported each month. Public health investigators linked the 14 illnesses to the recalled dog food by comparing the DNA “fingerprints” of the Salmonella found in the food to those found in the individuals by using a technology called pulsed field gel electrophoresis.

In follow-up interviews, four individuals diagnosed with Salmonella Infantis said they had direct contact with Diamond dog food that may have been produced in Gaston. Among the nine patients with available information, five were hospitalized, according to the CDC. Officials reported the infections in Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and Alabama.

The FDA and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with state and local officials, are investigating whether the illnesses are linked to other brands of dry dog food produced in Gaston. Diamond ceased production at the facility last month, two days after the initial recall.
The Meta, Mo.-based company issued the following statement today after the FDA investigation announcement:

“Diamond Pet Foods has been in full cooperation with federal and state health and regulatory agencies. Since notified in April, we have been aggressively addressing any issues. The FDA has acknowledged that we have taken corrective actions.”

The FDA advised consumers to avoid handling or feeding the recalled products to their pets and to contact Diamond if they are unsure if the product they purchased is included in the recall.

You are comparing a retailer and a manufacturer. There is no comparison. Smile

drsfostersmith.com sells all kinds of merchandise from many manufacturers. If there is a recall of one of the products they sell, then they will be recalled as well.

No I was not comparing at all. Blush Sorry if it seemed that way, I was only stating that is the brand I use and have never had a problem with. I know Dr's Foster and Smith is a retailer and know the manufacturer is CJ Foods out of the USA! Just thought I should clear that up! Have a nice weekend Admin!Boozing

It sounds worse with the fact it can affect humans who touched it.
I am really not familiar with this brand. Is it a good brand? Or just a big brand? Any of you use it?
