Our first dog is Jedi, a mixed breed. She was like our experiment because we didn't know about dogs then. But we loved her such that she was sleeping in our bedroom. Her favorite breakfast is hotdogs, roasted in the oven toaster otherwise she wouldn't it. But when a dog breeder learned of it, we were cautioned against giving processed food to our dogs - hotdogs, spam, corned beef, sausages, and other canned meat. But since Jedi loved hotdogs, we were so stubborn.
When Jedi died of renal failure, that was the time we realized that processed food has a bad effect on the kidneys of the dog. Now we have a policy against processed food for dogs because we care for their kidneys.
Processed foods have a certain salt content that dogs cannot filter the way humans do. It might be something that they might like but it's simply not made for them. I was even told to not give soups from stews to the dogs because they might be too salty for the pets. As if that isn't enough, even certain dog food brands are known to cause urinary tract infection in dogs. This is why we don't skimp on what we give to our pets. Their health is important to us and it will be more expensive to have sick dogs than healthier ones.
