Are you sure the tank size actually can limit the growth of a snake?
In aquarium hobby, there was also a similar saying with the size of fish but it was proven false. People often think a small sized tank is fine because "they will grow as big as the tank allow", but it is not the case with fish, and we always need to buy proper sized tanks according to the full adult size rather than their current size.
Yeah, go get that 100 gallon. 40 gallon tank is only around 3 feet long. The 5-foot snake can't even stretch fully.
