Does your dog chew up toys?
My dogs tear toys apart. The combination of the big dog and his strong jaw and the little dog and her sharp little teeth, very few toys have been able to last. Frisbees especially don't last long. I've tried the kong toys, they're supposed to be nearly indestructible, but these two have managed to find a way.
So far, this is one of the few toys that has survived a full year.

They love frisbees though, but not even the kong frisbee could withstand these two and their jaws.

My dog does this as a hobby, I'm sure. Every toy that we buy has to go through a test. He throws it, he bites it, he jumps on it, etc. If it's durable enough, he'll bring it to you eventually to throw or tug. But if he sees that it's too weak, he'll go put it at the bottom of his toy basket. Mind you, my dog is tiny. I don't quite understand why he does this though, but I think it's their own process of analyzing their playing material. Does your dog also have a favourite colour?

Gigi loves her Kong toy, too. Especially when it's filled with a yummy treat. But she prefers any squeak toy to her Kong. The problem is that it can't have stuffing in it or else within a day or two I find stuffing bits all over the floor. So I have to get her those stuffless squeak toys and those are her absolute favorites. Especially those ones that look like road kill. LOL

My dog has this latex squeaky ball that has withstood the destructive chewing ability of Ginger and Peanuts. In fact, this ball has passed through multiple dog jaws but is still hole-less.

I've seen some dogs destroy their Kong toys... even the Classic ones. You could try big beef leg bones. My dogs love them and they eventually give up trying to destroy it. It's too hard penetrate but to juicy to miss out on.

Ugh! LOL This reminds me of how I caught Peanuts strutting her way to the room while having a dead mice in her mouth. She even placed it down, pawed it a little and chewed it a little as if it was a little puppy sibling.

Luckily, when my dog was around, she never chewed any of her toys up. She did, however, chew up one of those nerf balls when I was about eight. No matter what you would say to her and even if you would hide it, she would chew on it!

Misha has a process to destroying toys. When she gets a new one, she plays with it like crazy. Then, she lays down and tries to remove the nose or a leg. After the first day, she's pretty good with them. She will get destructive if she thinks we aren't paying attention to her or when someone visits.

She does not like rubber toys at all. I bought her a small Kong when she was a puppy to help with the chewing. She never played with it. When she was teething, she preferred a Nylabone wishbone which is made of a hard plastic material. Now she only likes to play with tennis balls and stuffed animals. She only chews up the stuffed animals.

This isn't so uncommon, dogs will chew up toys especially when they are working their teeth to grow. Sort of like a baby teething but more intense apparently. I remember when Oso was a puppy I bought him a stuff dog as a companion, the older he got though the poor stuff animal became his chew toy and well it was destroyed.

Pafjlh, that is very true for puppies. Misha went through several Nylabone Wishbones (a hard plastic toy) when she was teething. She would grind them down to a stub.

Some dogs chew when bored. Some just like doing it. My brother's dog must kill the squeaker in any toy. He is focused on it and will not tear into a toy up until he is victorious.

My other brother has a dog that likes to suck on toys. He will take a stuffed animal or even a blanket, lay down, and suck on it like a pacifier. I've never seen another dog do that. Does anyone else's dog like to suck on toys?

I have a beautiful Chihuahua dog, and she likes to chew all kinds of toys, but not only that, she also likes to chew my shoes, any of my t-shirts it may find on the floor, and most annoying, she likes to chew paper. I have to be really careful not to let sheets of paper fall on the floor because it will chew it and tear it into very little pieces, which it piles up in a corner causing a big problem for me every time my wife finds one of these piles.

gabriel, I had that problem with my Lab for the first 3 years. We had to baby proof the house. Nothing was left on any table that was within her reach. Counters were kept clean. All doors were shut to rooms where she was not allowed to be in on her own. It saved a lot of headaches.

Choco is okay with her toys and she kind of hoards them in her basket. She keeps them very well. She walks around with her toys only when we don't pay her attention. I think she loves to play with my kids more than with her toys. She is nine and hasn't destroyed any of her toys after her passed her teething stage. She is very gentle and soft with everything.

We're newish dog owners. We got our Border Collie/Chow mix in May. He was 13 months when we got him. We have found out the hard way to not buy him any toys that are not geared toward larger dogs. My daughters thought it would be cute to get him a bunch of those squeaky toys. He chewed them up in a few minutes. We got him this giant, plastic, chocolate chip cookie looking thing for less than $5 at Petco in a clearance bin. He's had that for about 4 months and has only managed to chew one small hole in it. I need to find more toys like that.

I usually give my dogs tennis balls, but they destroy them within minutes. If I buy the cheap, dog-toy tennis balls, those things are shredded within seconds. Even the ones that are supposed to be tough, they ones that cost like $8-$9, literally destroyed in seconds.

They also have popped and ripped apart basketballs. I'm thinking about getting them some of the Kong toys, those look pretty durable to me.

The Kong is a fabulous toy!! They even made it through years of chewing by our German Shepherd. Our dogs only ever chew on their toys, nothign else, and we do not buy them toys that they can destroy.

He used to chew on everything when he was a puppy. But now that he's almost 3 years old, he has stopped doing that, but he does chew on his toys sometimes. We don't give him stuffed toys though as he would definitely destroy it in less than a day.

I have the same issue! I am constantly rebuying toys because my dog rips it apart. None of her toys last more than a week. I've bought toys that are hard to destroy but like your dog, she finds a way to destroy it. For such a small little girl dog, she plays rough and she's extremely wild. I love her though and will continue to buy toys as she destroys it days later--story of my life.
