I have one dog that would eat and eat and eat until she threw up if I left food down all the time and one dog that's finicky and likes to eat on her own timeframe. It's kind of a pain.
We feed them twice, though. They both weigh about 30 pounds and get 1/2 cup dry food in the AM and in the evening. Our older dog, a 14 year old Pug, has to get arthritis meds twice a day and she will only take them if we hide them in her food.
