Dog Invention - Connect with your pets from anywhere
Hi All,

I have currently made a robot that a user can have in their house to interact with their pets while the user is away (looks like a remote control car), it has a webcam and a microphone. The user can access the mobile app which I have also created that controls the movement of the robot. The mobile app runs through WiFI which means that wherever you have internet connection you can control the robot, see your pet as well as talk to them.

The purpose of my threads is to find out what functions users would want on a product like this. I have also considered treat dispenser, ball thrower, etc.

Please comment

Gordon

Your invention reminds me of PetChatz. I haven't actually used one before, but I like the idea.

However, the fact that yours is a robot is a definitely advantage. I'm sure my pup wanders around my house when he's home alone, and it would be fun to see him in his "natural habitat," if you will. Being able to deliver treats would definitely be an option that I would enjoy. Perhaps it could be an upgraded model?

How sturdy is your robot? I'm only wondering because I'm sure that if my pup sees something rolling around the house, he's going to want to sniff and drool on it, at the very least. If he's feeling particularly playful, he's going to want to chew on it. How fun would it be to play chase with him while I'm not there by having him chase the thing around the house?

If it also had an audio component that I could talk to him through, it would be interesting to practice training with him. Especially with the treat dispenser, I could offer rewards for him following directions.

This sounds like a really interesting device, and I can see where it would be really helpful in training your dog. Some dogs start barking as soon as the owner leaves the house, and bark for the rest of the day until the owner returns home from work that night.
If you had a remote device in the house, you would be able to train the dog not to bark, since you could talk to him and he would hear you and stop barking. Also, it would even help if someone broke into the house, and your dog was trying to scare him away. With the video-cam, you might even be able to see the intruder, and could call the police to catch him before he escaped with your valuables.
All in all, I think this would be a good thing, but if it would be used on a puppy or young dog who might chew it up, it would need to be able to bee set up in a safe place. Also, a sub-sonic sound that could be activated to stop unwanted barking would be a great asset to this device. Something like the anti-barking devices that you push the button and it emits a sound to stop barking.

This sounds like a really neat idea. It would be nice to see what "Rover" is up to when left home alone. I would love to have something like that set up, especially with the voice to where I could either praise my "little girl" or scold her if needed. I think now she sleeps most the time once she has figured it out she is not going to get to go with me.

If you had one of those set up, and could take a video of how the dog acted when "It" was talking to her you could probably win a prize on Worlds Funniest Videos"
