Dog Pee on Mattress...
My dog peed all over our spare bed the other day. We took the sheets off and only a tiny bit had seeped onto the mattress, so we cleaned it up as you do...

However, I hadn't yet put the sheets back on the spare bed and made it up, and he's gone and peed all over the mattress again. I've cleaned up what I can and I'm letting it dry but I think I'm going to have to get rid of the mattress...

Do you have any tips on getting the smell out? I've used Resolve but not sure how well it will go. Also, any tips as to why my dog would be doing this?

He's housebroken and usually pretty well behaved - these two instances have happened so closely together that I can't help but think something is wrong.

There's a cleaner you can get that will truly get the urine out. Even if you cleaned the mattress off, there is a chance you didn't actually get all of the urine trace out of it. As long as it's there, it's marked as a potty for your furbaby.
We use a line called Nature's Miracle and I buy it fairly priced on Amazon.com usually. I have one for furniture or carpet and one that's specialized to be safe on hardwood floors. It uses enzymes to break down the urine. It has a clean and light scent, not overpowering and is very safe to use.
There is also a product that is one of those "As Seen On TV" things called Urine Gone but I can't attest to it's quality as I've never used it. It supposedly comes with a blacklight that will help you see where urine is.
I hope you can find one of these cleaners or something like it so that your precious pup won't keep going back to that same spot!

I'll have to take a look at that cleaner on Amazon - you're right, I'm sure it's just a scent thing. The first seems to have been an accident but the second must just be the residue of the scent making him think it's okay to go potty there!

I feel bad because I'm sure he doesn't have a clue that what he's doing is wrong - it's not like he can understand me when I'm telling him that he shouldn't have done that inside! Usually he's just fine and very well housebroken so it was just such an oddity.

Thank you so much for giving me those recommendations - I'll give the Nature's Miracle one a try and fingers crossed I won't have to worry about him having an accident indoors again!

You are absolutely welcome and I really do hope it solves the problem!

How has it been going the last few days? Any more accidents?

Thanks for checking in, Sarah!

So far so good - no more accidents which is a good thing! I ordered the Nature's Miracle stuff too - it was less than $10 which is a small price to pay for not having to completely throw away a mattress! Gotta love Amazon Prime, that's for sure.

I'm really pleased with how it's worked out so far...it really has eliminated the odor very well.

That's awesome news! I'm so very happy to hear that!
LOL, I had Amazon Prime at the time I ordered mine also, so the free and fast shipping rocked. Unfortunately I didn't have the funds last month to renew, so I'm waiting to order more for my floors until I have a larger order to place so it can be an "add-on".
I really like the stuff because unlike other products, it neutralizes odor and solves the problem, rather than just temporarily covering the issue with a strong scent.

That's my thoughts exactly - when I just sprayed resolve on there when he had the first accident, I think all it did was clean it to the point of having a fragrance on the odor and make it "look" clean but the scent obviously still lingered - maybe not to my sense of smell, but obviously to my pups!

I'm really happy (and relieved) to have fixed the issue - I'll be recommending that product to friends and family too, I'm thrilled with it!
