An iPad for your dog ? Check out Petcube.
A pet owner came up with this remarkable device, which not only monitors your pet while you are gone, but also allows you to interact with him via an app. Apparently, other people can also interact with the dogs, when they have the app, and there is a pointer that the dog can watch and "chase" across the screen. They even have their own kind of Doggy Facebook, where you can share your pet's antic with other pet owners.
While this is still being developed and refined, it looks like it will also be a wonderful tool for pet rescues, and humane societies. The plan is to set the Petcube up in dog shelters, and then people can interact with the pets online, using the app.

Cool!!! I think this app is awesome! Because pets nowadays are considered not just merely as pets but as a member of the family! So this app will definitely help us monitor them and even have more fun with them.

I have several concerns. Maybe you could help me? Is this set-up like FaceTime? How would you be able to close the app? A dog would not be able to close the app or the link on the other side. How would the maker provide security for the pet and the owner? I would not want just anyone being able to look into my house or in on my pet especially when I was not home. That scares me quite a bit. Do you know how the safety issues are going to be addressed?

if you read the link that I posted along with the opening post; that will answer a lot of your questions about how the Petcube works. It looks to me like not just anyone can access your dogs Petcube, because the article specifically says that you have to authorize the users. However, if there are several members in your family, or even friends that your dog likes, then you could have them authorized to be able to interact with the "home-alone" dog.
After having two trips to the hospital recently for my heart problems; I can tell you that both Chipper and I would have been happy to have had such a device. He missed me terribly when I was gone, and my husband said that he finally just went and hid in a corner and moped when I didn't return after a couple of days.
One time, Bobby did put him on the telephone with me, so I could at least talk to the little guy; but i am sure that he would have enjoyed the Petcube a lot more.
I also think that it would be great for the animal rescue places to use one of these. People who lost their pets would be able to look for them easier, and someone wanting to adopt a pet could also interact with the dog, and see if they would dork out before adopting the dog.
