Metal Fragments Found by U.S. FDA on Some Pedigree® Dog Food Bags
[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRdggnx6RmFdCz5vuvlSut...VwkudlIdxw]
The US FDA ordered recall on some of the packages of the dog food brand Pedigree®. The contaminated bags were allegedly sold between August 18 to 25 at Dollar General Stores in Vicksburg, Magnolia as well as other Dollar stores in Louisiana, Arkansas and Tennessee. The FDA report said the affected bags were processed in a single Pedigree® manufacturing facility. The said facility was now shut down pending investigation and resolution. The small metal fragments FDA said could have entered in the bags during the production stage and not embedded in the food itself but just the same can still pose risk and injury if consumed. The FDA identified the affected Pedigree® product as the 15-pound bag of Pedigree ® Adult Nutrition Dry Dog Food. FDA further noted that no other Pedigree ® products and variants are affected. FDA advised the buying public to discard the dog food at once or return to its retailer for a full refund. The Pedigree® Dog Food brand was owned and manufactured by American global food conglomerate, Mars, Inc.

RE: Metal Fragments Found by U.S. FDA on Some Pedigree® Dog Food Bags
It seems like there is just a lot of unwanted and dangerous things getting into the dog and cat food in recent years. It makes you wonder how safe that our own packaged food is. Most of the companies that make pet food are also human food manufacturers; and they use the scraps that are left over from our food products to make the pet food.
I have used Pedigree in the past, but not for a long time, and it was usually the canned food when i did buy it. However, these accidents seem to happen in all of the plants, whether it is cheap or expensive dog food. Unless we happen to read about a re-call, it is hard to know what might be in the food or the package, and I imagine that sometimes, it doesn't get found or reported, and our pets just get sick or die, and no one knows what caused it.
About the only way to be safe with food, is to make your own pet food, and not everyone has time, or wants to do that. Plus, some people just think that an animal should only be fed actual pet food that comes from a bag or a can; not even thinking that it is still made from scraps left over from our food products.

Yeah. this was such an unfortunate accident that can happen to any food processing company. I too was a Pedigree customer in the past. Although, our pets are helpless about it if they eat it without us knowing about it. Its always a good side that FDA and other regulating body could somehow still contain mishaps like these. On the other good side, the food company (Pedigree) shall now be more careful on the quality control of their products. In the end, us customer and our pet consumers will greatly benefit on this happening. Smile
