Vacationing with the dogs
Do you bring your dogs to vacation trips? We usually rent a van so it would be comfortable for our dogs and also for us since the van has a driver. The longest trip that our dog had experienced was the Baguio City trip. It is 6 hours drive from our home. We always rent a villa because dogs are not allowed in hotels. And it is always 2 nights of stay. The attraction of Baguio City is the cool atmosphere averaging 20 degrees C during summer. And when we go there, it is imperative that the dogs would be wearing clothes to protect them from the cold temperature.

Many are surprised to learn that we bring along our dogs to long trips. The first question is the toilet needs. Our dogs are used to riding in cars so they can control the urge. And if they couldn't then they would surely let us know by showing they are restless. Then we would make a pit stop for their convenience.

By the way, our dogs enjoy not only the cool weather but also bonding since they sleep with us on the bed and they also share in the comforter.

Here is a blog of one of our vacation trips - http://petizone.blogspot.com/2012/02/dog...aguio.html

RE: Vacationing with the dogs
I don't really recommend taking your pet to vacation unless you don't need to fly them. I think dogs get really stressed when they travel by plane, so I never risked taking my furry baby with me. Also, I don't trust how they take care of pets. If most travel companies don't even care about a client's baggage (which can have actual money value in them), I don't see why they'd take better care of our pets, which they treat as if they were nothing more than another bag.

If you are not going far, I think taking your dogs on a vacation with you is a great idea!  Our pets are our family.  I know that I miss them terribly when I am away from them.  I hate to board them too.  All you really need to take them on vacation with you is a pet friendly hotel and a few rest stops with some patches of grass for bathroom breaks!

I would never take my dog on a flight with me. As some other people have said, the whole experience would be way too stressful for my dog I think. Plus, airlines treat baggage horribly, I can't imagine they would treat pets any differently. Furthermore, we also don't leave our dog in the care of a kennel when we travel and are unable to take our beloved Beagle along. Literally, if our dog can't be left with family or close friends that he trusts and is familiar with, we just don't go. He's like a child to us and we treat him as such.

I've taken my dog overseas with me. I do have a carrying bag that he can fit into and I slide him under the seat in front of me on airplanes. I just need to see what airlines allow pets in the cabin and see what type of restrictions they have. Some require vaccinations before entry and a full plane fare to have your dog in the cabin. Those are usually the last ones I chose to fly with. I hate spending money on a full adult human seat for a small dog that is sitting under the seat.
