hi,
there are a lot of stray dogs in my area. They are friendly and don't bite any1 but my dog doesn't like them and behaves very aggressively when they are around. while i was walking my dog in the morning my pet jumped on the stray and bit the butt of the stray dog although there was no bite mark on the stray and neither any blood on my dog teeth bt on my pet tongue there was hair of the stray dog and he swallowed it...is there any need for panic and i;m worried about rabies also...
can rabies be spread with other dog hair also.....
I'm not a vet, so I have no idea, but I wouldn't be too worried about it, if it were my dog. The other dog was probably OK, there's really nothing to worry about. If you're really unsure, call a vet and ask them. Of course, they'll probably try to get you to bring your dog in, so they can charge you, but, just ask questions over the phone.
I basically think you need to train your dog to stop being so aggressive around other dogs. This is dangerous for him as well as the other dogs. He could easily get rabies.
If this is unacceptable behavior is curtailed you could enjoy your walks with your dog even better.
I do not think swallowing hair will cause him to get rabies, but dogs do have sharp teeth and even a light nick that gets a bit of blood is dangerous.
It would help to get your dog an anti rabies shot.
My first concern is whether your dog has all his shots. Parvo, distemper and rabies are all dangerous diseases that you expose your pet to every time you take him outdoors. Please get him his shots as soon as possible, then rabies will not be a concern.
Next, you must get control of your dog. Practice walking the dog on the leash and don't allow the dog to drag you. While I didn't see an article in the Pet Keepers library yet, I'd keep checking back to see if any new articles have been uploaded. In the meantime, there are a lot of free training videos online. I'd highly recommend watching them and implementing the trainers instructions. Here's one website: http://abrionline.org/videos.php where you can see techniques for handling your dog when he becomes agressive toward other dogs while on the leash.
I didn't see in your post, you do walk the dog on a leash, right? If you don't, please begin using one as soon as possible. It's simply not safe to walk a dog without a leash.
How awful! I hope the other dog was okay. I am not certain if dogs can catch anything from swallowing dog hair but it is a possibility. You should take your dog to the doctor's office just to be on the safe side. He may seem fine on the exterior but could possibly suffer from something that has no symptoms. So, definitely have him checked out and hopefully everything turns okay. Best of luck!
