Do not leave your dog alone for a long trip.

I also don't think it is cruel to board a pet. If you have checked out the establishment and know that they are reputable, your dog should be well taken care of. Do your research, see what others have to say about the place. It would be better than leaving the dog home alone.

Having said that, my dog would not do well at a kennel or boarding facility. But, I am lucky as I have a large family who will help out.

We all have to do what is best and what we are capable of. For some people a kennel is the only viable option.
