It was warm out down here in GA so used the heat and light to my advantage to get a good picture

The new little fella came in, and like you asked. Here he is!

Brand new to the reptile pet world (well sorta). Back story is I did have a little desert lizard and a couple salamanders when I was a kid, so I guess I have a little tiny bit of experience.

I am 42 and just got my first snake this week. I spent 3 weeks doing research on the subject of good first snakes and was drawn to the smaller Corn/King/Milk snakes (Colubridae). Part of this was due to the fact that my wife is very unfamiliar with snakes and the Boa / Python route may have been "too much snake" for a first one.

I found that Kings tend to be a little more nippy than the Corn or Milks, so I narrowed my search to Corns and Milks. I found that even though some say that Milks are more difficult than Corns, I was just too drawn to the look of the Milks. On Monday I found the perfect little 6 month old Tangerine Honduran Milk Snake (L. t. hondurensis). He is a good eater (per prior owner) and I can say that he certainly is, as yesterday he ate 2 pinkies with no issue at all. Before he was fed yesterday, I was able to handle him for 5-10 minutes and he is a calm customer. He just hung out on my hand and sniffed around a bit. He wasn't too jumpy and seems to be very use to handling.

Anyway, since this is a picture thread, here are a couple of Javi.

I would say that is a great first snake! First, because they are relatively hardy and calm animals, and second, and most important really, you like him! And not to get overly scientific, but all milk snakes are kingsnakes. A kingsnake is any species in the genus Lampropeltis. Milk snakes are subspecies of Lampropeltis tringulum. Either way, he is beautiful! I'd move him up from pinkies though, they are very low in nutrition. He looks big enough for fuzzies, maybe even hoppers.
