Does Your Dog Hate Being Groomed?
Back when we first started grooming Buchi, our four year old Shih Tzu, every time the clipper was one, he'd growl at it and bite it. He also hated being combed on the nuzzle area which is the most difficult part to clean due to the gunk that accumulates there.

Nowadays, he's a well-behaved chapped (that still gets mad at the clippers but no longer fusses that much). He doesn't have issues with combing anymore. I suppose he learned this eventually (when he realized that I wouldn't budge even when he would initiate a nip-a-thon).

How does your dog take grooming?

When she was around, she loved taking a bath, but she absolutely hated being brushed. I remember my little Shih Tzu adored being in water and getting cleaned, but when it came to brushing time, she would run away and take a piss on the ground just out of spite, even if she was previously walked!

Yes, but it was only went I took her to a pet grooming store. She definitely hated the idea of getting groomed by strangers. When it was time for a bath she did exceptionally well and I never have any issues. She is the only dog that I've had that actually enjoy the feeling of sitting in warm water.

My Papillion mix doesn't mind being bathed, brushed and clipped. He gets nervous but never nips.

My Chihuahua on the other hand, is okay with the bath (one we catch him), but hates getting his nails clipped. We have to put the collar on him so he cannot bite us.

They both get really hyper and happy after the bath. They run around the house, outside, and then back in to rub on the carpet.

I started grooming Cha cha my chow chow myself when I got her at 3 months old. In my experience the more I am agitated the more she is also, so I try to stay calm when I bathe and groom her. I have a habit of singing slow songs more to soothe me while I brush and detangle her coat and in turn it keeps her calm as well. I think it still stresses her a bit though because it does not matter what time of the day I bathe her she still has to pooh and pee after every grooming session.

My dog absolutely hates getting a bath. However she is a Basenji mix and they're notorious for hating water, and I've read that you can train them to not have such an aversion to it but she's already 6 years old so I don't really see the point! She loves getting toweled off after a bath, though, and getting brushed is one of her favorite activities!

My dog loved bathing in the river, but hated tub baths. He did not like getting brushed with a standard dog brush with teeth, so we started using a man's hair brush and he loved that. As far as getting his toenails clipped, he did not mind the front ones so much but hated when we did his back feet.

I think he just did not like the noise the clippers made when we cut the nails off.

Our long hair chihuahua loves the whole grooming process, She relaxes in the tub while getting shampooed and rinsed and stands for her drying and hair clipping wihout a care. She adores being brushed and will keep prodding for you to continue if you stop
She is not terribly happy about getting her nails clipped but does not make a fuss
My little Charli on the other hand does not like anything being done to her, she scrambles to get away when being bathed, luckily she is short haired so she doesnt need much maintenance, but she absoluetly hates having her nails clipped and she's so small and fine boned I hate to grip her

One of Bernese Mt dogs loves it, he will lay on his back and let us brush anywhere we want. Now, our other Bernese Mt dog gets so nervous he tries to walk away and hide! He actually shakes with nervousness, poor guy.

Then our yellow lab loves it so much he pushes his way in front of the other dogs so he can be brushed to.

Funny how all dogs are different. Some of our dogs love the bath, and our other ones hate it!

Our dog is terrified of the water. So we try to keep baths down to a bare minimum for him. When we absolutely need to bathe him my boys and I try to talk to him softly. And we work together to get the bath done quickly. Then my boys actually grab towels and lay down on the floor snuggled up with him till he calms down. We also give him a special treat after his bath. When it comes to brushing him out he seems to really enjoy that part of it. He acts like he is getting a massage. We adopted Nash ten years ago. And to this day we never figured out why he is so scared of water. But at least when we get the brush out he gets excited.
