What food are you feeding to your dog? Maybe you need to check the quality of the dog food if the dog is eating a lot but still very skinny?
Sure animals in the wild will eat as much as they can when they have the chance, but just like for humans, several spread out smaller meals are better than one big meal. Less stress on the digestive system.
