My brave little dog !
We have two little dogs. Chipper, who is my older Yorkie-Poo, and Miss Tootsie, who is a heeler mix. Tootsie looks like across between a Queensland Blue Heeler and either a small Fox Terrier, or maybe a Chihuahua. Regardless, she thinks that she is the official Guard Dog for the family.
The other night, we were sitting in the house with the front door open, when Tootsie started barking ferociously and ran out the door. When my husband got there (right behind her), there were two huge German Shepards that came right up on the porch, and would probably have run right into the house if Miss Tootsie had not been out there barking at them. She was not afraid at all, and was doing her job as the family guard dog, all 10 lbs of her !

I am always amazed at dogs in these situations. I have 2 dogs, one large and one small. The large dog is a huge protector of our home and family which is no surprise. On the other hand, you would think our small dog would be shy and a little more reserved. NO WAY !!!!! He barks and does exactly what the bigger one does. He protects our home and his family as if he was a doberman!!!

That's one of my favorite things about dogs, their loyalty to their humans, no matter the cost. Smile

The place I live in is sort of a vast grassland. My neighbor has a couple of Alsatians who are closer to each other than Siamese twins. Once I was surprised to see Cookie, one of them, barking her head off and madly circling her house. Neighbor comes out worried, thinking something has happened to Bella, the other one. I accompany the neighbor to where Cookie leads us. Bella is standing at a distance, looking intently at the ground. We rush to see that it's a deep hole and a terrified five-year old had fallen in. After a few hours that seemed like a lifetime, little Sarah was rescued, thanks to these formidable doggies!!
As long as we have dogs in this world, everything can get better...

RE: My brave little dog !
Wow, that is just a beautiful story, and so heart-touching, too ! Dogs are truly amazing animals, and I think that God made them with their kind hearts so they would be good companions to humans. It seems like , back through time , dogs have been the faithful companions and guardians of their human family, often risking their own lives to protect us.
Horses also seem to have this special kind of bond with people, and like, dogs, they have usually lived in a close relationship with their owners, and faithfully protected them. Most of the horses used in battle would be right there in the fight as they carried their rider into battle. and other horses have attacked wild mountain lions or bear to protect their owner when he was in danger.
I was reading in the "Book of Jubilees" (one of the "extra " books of the Bible), and it was talking about the creation, and one verse said that when Adam and Eve were made to leave the Garden of Eden, that the animals were no longer able to talk. This really made me wonder if, originally, mankind was able to freely converse with the animals ? ? Interesting concept.....

I dont know if anyone here enjoys reading but if you do I highly recommend some of Dean Koontzs work. He has a real understanding and admiration of dogs which he uses in a lot of his stories as either a minor or more major part and he writes of dogs as being gods special gift to mankind with a special connection to the almighty (or whatever you want to call it). Try "The Darkest Evening of the Year" for one where a dog is a central character

Puppet, I have read quite a few of Dean Koonz books (although not recently), and he is one of my favorite authors. I also like that he often includes at least one animal in the story; usually a Golden Retriever, like he had. The only part that I don't like is when the poor dog dies at the end.
When I was growing up, my favorite author was Walter Farley, who wrote all of The Black Stallion series, Son of The Black Stallion, as well as The Island Stallion, and I think there was another one or more, as well. Marguerite Henry illustrated the books, and I just loved her beautiful pictures as much as I loved the story.
I think that I drew (or tried to draw) every picture that was in all of the books.
