When I used to have dogs that shed a lot, I had a kind of grooming tool that was long and had little saw teeth on it. It could either be used opened up into a straight tool, or folded into a U-shape, and it looked like a curry comb for horses, but it was for long haired dogs instead.
When spring came, and my dog was shedding really bad, then I would take him outside, and bring a pocket full of dog treats to give him one now and then, and just sit out there with him, and groom as much of the shedding hair as I could get each day until he was finished shedding out the winter coat.
He was a white Pom, so there would be clouds of white fluff blowing away in the breeze.
Once he was done shedding, and just had the shorter summer coat, then I could use a regular brush on him to keep his coat groomed.
