Suggest a Cat Food (Canned)

I recently switched my cats to canned food because that is much healthier and safer for them according to my veterinarian. I am feeding them Smart Heart and Lara Fitness. However, they are a bit expensive here where I come from.

I was wondering if anybody here also feeds their cat canned food. Can you suggest a good yet affordable brand to me? I'm looking for something that doesn't have really high protein content because that is bad for my cat's kidneys.

I usually gave my cat just dry cat food, and at that time, dry food was recommended for both cats and dogs, because it helps their gums and teeth to stay cleaner and healthier. The vet said that it was okay to give them some canned cat food more or less just as a treat, but to use dry cat food as the main food.
One thing that I like about the dry food, is that you can put a bowlfull of it out, and know that your cat always has food to eat when he is hungry. With the canned cat food, you can only give them what they will eat right away, so it doesn't spoil or get a fly in it, or something bad like that. Then , the cat doesn't get anything else to eat until the next time you come along to feed him.
When I bought canned cat food (or dog food), I usually bought Pedigree, and that always seemed to agree with them just fine.
I recently tried the new Purina Beyond for my little dogs, and they loved it. I am pretty sure that Purina has a version of the Beyond food for cats, too.

The debate over which is better -- wet or dry -- is one that has supporters on both sides. I had always fed my cats only dry food, since the prevailing view at the time was that dry food was better, particularly for dental health. I began feeding both dry and wet food when some of my cats reached fifteen years of age, having learned that hydration can be a problem with older cats. Since I had four cats at one time, it would be hard for me to figure out if one of my cats wasn't drinking enough water, so I decided to feed them canned food twice a day, while free-feeding them kibble, since they don't overdo it on the kibble.

Pretty much the only kibble that I feed them is Blue Buffalo. By way of disclosure, I used to be a Blue Buffalo representative. It has been several years now, but I am still loyal to the brand since my cats have done very well with it.

They can eat the same kibble every day and never get tired of it, but they demand a lot of variety in canned food. While I do rotate all of the Blue Buffalo canned food options in to their meal plan (except the Basic, which they don't like), I include, also, pretty much every variety of canned cat food that I can find, as long as it has meat, poultry or fish as the first ingredient, no corn, soy or wheat, no by-products, or gluten.

These have included Nature's Logic, Halo, Wellness (they all hated it until they all suddenly started liking it), Innova EVO, Drs. Foster & Smith, Natural Balance, Royal Canin, Solid Gold, AvoDerm, Evangers, Natural Value, and probably quite a few others that I am not remembering. It is guaranteed that if I buy a case of anything, they will be sick of it after about the second can.

Interestingly, Petco's house premium brand -- Soulistic -- has been an all-time favorite of my cats. There are several varieties of Soulistic cat food, and they seem never to get tired of it.

Since I live seventy miles from a store that carries much of a selection of premium foods, I can get Newman's at the local grocery store. Of course, because it's so available, my cats are tired of it much of the time.

If you have a Tractor Store near you, they have a house brand of premium cat food that is less than fifty cents a can. There are only four varieties so I have to space it out between other types of food, but the price can't be beat, and the ingredients are good.

When I bought canned cat food I usually prefer royal canin and Pedigree food. Following sources can provide you good canned options to choose with wide price range:

Both dry and wet food better for your cat health but it will depend upon choice of your cat. Pedigree is best canned food for your pets. You should try at once.

When we lived in NYC we used to buy our pet food from mom & pop shop on 23th street and it was great because we could ask the owner questions and get advice. since we move out west and there is no pet shop around we rely on online vendors.
