Cat Dieting

Hello everyone, I have an overweight cat. He's 8 years old and weighs around 8 kilograms, nearly twice the recommended weight. I was wondering if anyone else on this forum has had to put their cat on a diet and can answer the following questions; how much did you feed them? How often? What brand of cat food?

I have tried simply feeding him less, however since I have two cats I have to feed both of them, the overweight one just steals the other cat's food. Does anyone have any tips as to how I can diet one cat, and feed the other normally at the same time?
