Does your cat snore?
I know lots of dogs snore, but do you often hear of cats that snore? We have one cat that snores quite loudly. She's the only cat we've ever had (six total, so far) that has snored. She even wakes up the other cats sometimes with her loud snoring. Our Tonkinese will often stare at her malevolently if he's sleeping on my lap and she is snoring away beside us on the couch. He's been known to attack her suddenly, if I'm not carefully keeping hold of him, just to shut her up!
Do you have or know of any other cats that snore?

Laura, I thought you were gonna say your tonk snores. Our male tonkinese snores. He's the only cat I've ever seen do that. It's not extremely loud, but noticeable.

That's funny! Nope, our Tonk is very quiet. He rarely makes any noise. He'll sometimes go in another room and make angry, frustrated, wailing cries if he has been thwarted too often by us from attacking the Bengal! LOL! Otherwise, he's the silent type. The DSH is the cat that always has something to say. The Bengal is fairly chatty too - but her snores are LOUD! She has allergy problems and lots of sinus issues, so maybe that's why she snores?

Our tonk had almost no voice. He kind of "chitters" once in a while, but his attempts at meowing are pitiful, lol. But, he does snore.

RE: Does your cat snore?
This thread reminds of something that happened about a year ago. It was late and I was the only one awake, so it was quiet in the house. Then I started hearing this rhythmic whiny sound. I had no idea what it was, so I went to investigate. I was shocked to find that it was the cat snoring! He still snores occasionally, but not very often.

That's funny, jen! Yes, we all can hear our Bengal snoring away, even if she's in another room! She doesn't snore ALL the time, but certainly enough. Even the laid-back, sweet natured DSH is bothered by her snores sometimes. One day recently I noticed he was sleeping on the floor and the Bengal was sleeping on a chair across the room from him. He woke up suddenly and turned his head, staring at the Bengal for a couple minutes or so. She was snoring away, obviously disturbing his sleep! LOL

Fishbone, I wonder if lack of voice is common in Tonks. I vaguely remember reading that Tonks are highly chatty, just like their Siamese ancestry - but maybe I'm wrong there. You & I both have quiet Tonks! It's funny yours snores though. Does he have any kind of nasal problems or allergies? I'm pretty sure my Bengal has asthma as well as allergies. I've mentioned it to her vet several times over the years, but since we can't, ourselves, medicate this wild, high strung girl, there's no use doing anything for her medicine wise.

My cat really doesn't snore, but she breathes loudly. She only does this when she is in a sound sleep though. My dog on the other hand snores, really loud. There are times when I have to kick my dog out of the room because she is so loud and I can't hear my t.v.

I had noticed the other day that our youngest cat was snoring just slightly. It just happens that he also had his tongue hanging out of his mouth slightly. It was darling and wish I had my camera on me (and that he woule be photogenic). Absolutely sweethearts!

Awwww, I love it when I see my cats with their tongues sticking out of their little mouths! It really is adorable, isn't it?! Smile I wonder if your cat will continue to be a snorer, and if it will get louder with age. I really don't remember our Bengal snoring when she was younger!

Geez, dashboard, that's a mighty loud snorer you've got. When you can't hear the TV because your dog's snoring too loud, it's time to invent some kind of "Breathe Right" strip for dogs! LOL Big Grin

I also love when they fall asleep with their tongue sticking out. It's so precious! Unfortunately, my camera makes a chiming noise and every time I try to take her picture when she's asleep the darn thing wakes her up. If I leave the room and turn the camera on she somehow senses what I'm going to do and she's awake. Darn it!

She rarely snores but she suffers hayfever and her allergies are kicking in right now. Poor baby.

Oh, that's a bummer about your noisy camera! I know the slightest sound I make can wake up my cats sometimes. Very frustrating if you're trying to get a cute pose captured with your camera! There's been times I've walked in on my Tonk sleeping on the bed before and he's so adorable, and completely "dead" to the world, I've been able to walk right up to him and kiss his little face before he wakes up. I wish I had my camera at those times!

This is a really funny conversation!

Actually, our Manx doesn't snore, but when she purrs it sometimes sounds like she's snoring, because she grunts very loudly as she purrs! Sometimes she'll fall asleep, completely contented and grunting to herself so loudly, you can hear her across the room.

Yes, we have cats that snore and it usually catches me off guard! I'm always looking around trying to figure out where the noise is coming from and it just happens to be the cat curled up in the corner. One cat that we have seems to have irregular breathing (which is rather loud) and his snoring is rather comical. At least they don't snore as loud as my husband- much easier to ignore!

CinnamonBear, your grunting cat sounds quite funny! I don't think I've heard a grunting cat before. LOL

JustJenne, I wonder if that cat you mentioned with the irregular breathing might have a medical issue? Something like sleep apnea that we humans can be bothered with. It might be something to mention to your vet. Oh geez, the snoring hubby - that's soooo annoying! Grrrr! How many times I've been awakened by mine, and then unable to ever get back to sleep while he keeps on "sawing logs"! He now wears those Breathe Right strips which help somewhat.

My cat snores. She is a large cat and if she is laying on her back she snores and makes whistling sounds. I am actually surprised that she doesn't wake herself up with all the noise she makes! LOL!

VJNatale, your cat making "whistling sounds" really cracks me up. You should make a sound recording of her! LOL And I'm also surprised she doesn't wake herself up. I know if I happen to lay on my back, I usually end up snoring and I always wake myself up, with even the most delicate of snores! haha
Your cat brings to my mind the Three Stooges and some of those shows where they're snoring so loud and funny! Maybe your cat has been watching some of those old shows and has decided to copy the noise! Rofl

My cat, Lily, is a large cat, too. And she snores, or wheeze snores more like it. I'm thinking that maybe she has a deviated septum. My husband jokes with me that we should take her to the vet for a nose job, and while we're at it get her a tummy tuck, too, becuase her tummy practically hangs on the floor.

My cat Bunny does the same thing when she's sleeping. It's more of a wheezing, whistling snore than a full out human kind of snoring sound. It actually startled me the first time I heard it and it took me awhile to realize it was coming from her!
