What is the most unusual pet you have had?
When my daughter was in high school, we had elderly friends who lived out in the country. One day, a squirl was killed in the road in front of their home and that afternoon, there was a baby squirl in their fron yard crying for it's mama. They figured she was the dead squirl. They scooped the baby up and put it in a cage. When we came to visit later that day, they gave the little one to us. We took him home and named him Charley. We stopped on the way and picked up a pet nursing bottle and a can of kitten formula. That little guy took to it like he had always drunk from a bottle. We raised Charlie and kept him for almost a year. He would ride around on our shoulders and cry when left alone for to long. Eventually, we took him to a wildlife rehab center and after a couple of weeks, he was returned to the wild to live with the other squirls. We miss him to this day.

Aww that's a cute story. Squirrels are adorable, and I'd love to have one as a pet.

I dunno, the weirdest pet I had was a crawfish. I was really young, so I barely remember it. But I do remember it liked jumping out of its tank all the time. Usually my parents would find it in time and put it back in the tank. One night, though, we got back from the mall and the crawfish wasn't in its tank. By the time we found it, it was already gone. I just sort of remember peering around a sofa and seeing the tail fins. Kinda traumatizing Sad.

RE: What is the most unusual pet you have had?
I think the most unusual pet that i had was a little opossum that I found in the road. I was traveling on a country road, and as I came around the corner, I could see some kind of a little creature just sitting upright in the middle of the yellow line, weaving back and forth like he was trying to look dangerous.
I stopped the vehicle, took my large soda-pop container, dumped out the last of the ice, and went to catch the poor little fellow and get him out of the road before he got run over and killed.
When I got close, I could see that he was a tiny little baby possum, and he must have fallen off of his mother's tail and she just went on without him. As I got close, he kept up the weaving side to side, and also was baring his sharp teeth, and hissing at me !
I managed to get him scooped up into the plastic drink cup, and put the lid on with some holes in it, so he could breathe, but not climb out.
After I got him home, I warmed up some milk and put it in the little bottle that I used for orphan kittens, picked him up just like I would have done if he were a kitten, and fed him.
The poor little guy was starving, and just scarfed down the milk. After that, he was better to feed, but always did the weaving and hissing first, and then would let me pick him up.
Since he was a FORD (found on roadside dying) I named him Edsel, and we called him Ed for short.
I kept him until he was old enough to go out and forage for himself, and was eating other food.
He never did actually try to bite me; but neither did he ever get very friendly.

A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.

I think I would have to say a hamster. Well, there is nothing unusual about hamsters! But aside from cats and dogs, those are the pets that I had once. I had a pair that I bought from a pet shop. Teddy bear hamsters. They gave birth to a few hamsters, but sadly, they died about two years ago. My mother bought another pair, and I guess those hamsters had viruses. One day, I just found all my hamsters dead. It was really weird. We decided to not take care of hamsters anymore because they are very difficult to handle.

I had a robin for a while. I didn't actually want it, it kind of chose me. The poor thing damaged and lost all his tail feathers! There a lot of cats and owls in my area and I was afraid he'd get attacked, so I let him hang out in my garage for a while since animal control wouldn't come out and do anything for him. Unfortunately, he didn't make it very long- I think he got an infection when he lost his tail feathers- but I'd like to think I made his last days a bit more comfortable.
